Essentialism is regarded as the school attaching importance to 'social efficiency' and minimizing teachers' freedom, that is transfering the power to make curriculum to public officers and experts about education. Essentialists accepted the importance of professionalism of teachers, but teachers' freedom was thought to be restricted by 1 : the primary function of education, transmission of social heritage, 2 : immaturity of pupils, 3 : the political and religious tenet of the community and the parents, 4 : democraticcontrol by the public. Kandel held the view about education and school in common, but his vision of teachers' educational freedom and control by the public was different from other essentialists
