The mechanical behavior and failure of plastic bonded explosives (PBXs) under loading conditions depend on the adhesive and cohesive properties and the debonding of the ingredients and their interfaces. A new experimental approach has been done with the aim of measuring the debonding in macroscopic binder/crystal composites using a mechanical testing machine. Therefore macroscopic, centimeter-sized crystal/binder/anchor “sandwiches” were produced and measured in with a 10 kN load cell, and the tests were monitored by a video system.
