Contributions to the study and promotion of resilience in socially vulnerable children

Young children are particularly susceptible to the adverse effects of social vulnerability. Resilient children are those who resist adversity, manage to cope with uncertainly and are able to recover successfully from trauma. Becoming familiar with the characteristics of natural resilient children allow preventive intervention policies to be designed. Given that resilience interventions are an integrative process, it is necessary to work in different environments: family, school, and neighborhood. Interventions addressing the resources of social vulnerable children appear to have quite an important role when children are faced with threats. But for the intervention effects on resources are maintained or improved, the intervention needs to be intensive and continued over time. The child´s age when the intervention begins is also an important factor.
