The aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AHR) is a ligand-activated transcription factor that mediates most of the toxic and endocrine-disruptive actions of aromatic compounds in theovary. Paradoxically, this receptor has been shown to play important roles in normal female reproductive function as well.
