南極大陸とその周辺に存在する山地,海岸,海底の地形・地質には,過去の南極氷床の盛衰が様々な形で記録されている.これらの記録は,断片的ではあるが,過去の南極氷床の空間的な分布範囲や拡大・縮小過程,当時の氷床底環境などを復元するうえで,他の地球科学的手法では得ることができない独特のデータを提供する.本稿では,地形地質学的に復元された最終氷期最盛期以降の南極氷床融氷史に関する成果の概要と今後の課題を示す.The Antarctic Ice Sheet history has been recorded on various sediments and rocks of the mountains, coasts and the ocean floor of Antarctica and its surroundings.
