Dry sliding wear experiments were performed on a pin-ring apparatus with different metal pins (copper, brass 63, lead, tin) on carbon steel rings (C 45). The texture of the contact surface was measured after the sliding process. Also the textures of the copper pin in the depth were measured by removing definite layers of the contact surface by etching. The wear texture would have been a shear texture if it were in accordance with the wear model developed by Dautzenberg. Comparison of the wear texture with the shear texture in FCC metals calculated according to the Taylor principle by linear programming shows a poor agreement.
