Compact multimode interference (MMI) based power dividers with unequal splitting ratio have been fabricated in InP-InGaAsP. Devices measure down to 7*50 mu m/sup 2/. Extremely compact MMI power splitters with unequal splitting ratio have been fabricated. Device size as small as 4*62 mu m/sup 2/ was realised for a device with a 90:10 splitting ratio. The excess loss, compared to a straight waveguide, is less than 1 dB. Good agreement was observed between theory and experiment
