A photonic CAD-tool based on a microwave design system (HP's MDS) is presented. The tool is developed by implementing modules for a number of elementary optical components and by implementing a key component in advanced optical communication systems: the phased-array wavelength demultiplexer. It is shown how devices like optical switches and optical crossconnects can be simulated using these modules and simulations are compared with experimental result
