The archirecturral design process is knowledge intensive. One of the particular kinds of knowledge architects use are building types. This paper proposes an approach for modelling procedural and declarative knowledge of building types by means of graphic representations with specific knowledge content: generic representations. It discusses the analysis of graphic representations and demonstrates how generic representations can be used to model the design process of the office building. The approach aids in identifying knowledge required during the design process and aids architectural design in a more natural way
