Detecting partial discharge (PD) activity in cable systems is an established method to assess the condition of medium voltage (MV) and high voltage (HV) cable networks. Cross-bonding (CB) joints with their interruption in the metallic earth screen have a major influence on the propagation of PD pulses through the cable system. For optimal PD detection sensitivity a model of the high frequency behaviour of the CB-joints is required. A theoretical model of a CB-joint, including CB-box and the joints in the other phases, is proposed and verified with measurement
