We compare the performance of three computational methods for characterizing the electromagnetic interaction between deterministic electromagnetic fields and objects of fluctuating geometry. These methods aim at determining the average and variance of observables of the EM coupling. Each of the methods takes a different route to deal with the stochastic nature of the problem. We illustrate the methods by studying a stochastic wire over a perfectly conducting ground plane illuminated by a deterministic plane wave
