Two types of discontinuities are distinguished: D and D' discontinuities. The facilities for discontinuity specification in the combined continuous-time Chi discrete-event ?? language are treated. Although the language consists of a relatively small number of language elements, discontinuities can be elegantly specified in manyways. This is illustrated by means of examples. D discontinuities cannot be handled by the differential algebraic equation solver used in the ??simulator. By means of techniques such as substitution, variables that cause the discontinuity can be removed
