Essential oils of Curcuma aromatica Salisb. from Northeast India

The essential oils obtained by steam distillation of the leaves and rhizomes of cultivated Curcuma aromatiea Salisb. were investigated by GC and GC/MS. About 50 compounds have been identified in these oils, accounting for more than 85% of the contents. The major constituents of the leaf oil were found to be camphor (28.5%), ar-turmetone (13.2%), curzerenone (6.2%), l,B-cineole (6.0%) and (X-turmerone (2.5%). The rhizome oil consisted mainly of camphor (32.3%), curzerenone (11.0%), (X-turmerone (6.7%), ar-turmerone (6.3%) and 1,8-cineole (5.5%)
