Patient-specific induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) emerged as a promising cell source for disease modeling and drug screening as well as a virtually unlimited source for restorative therapy. The thesis deals with three major topics to help realizing biomedical applications with neural stem cells. To enable the generation of transgene-free iPSCs, alternatives to retroviral reprogramming were developed.
