This paper deals with Weber´s ideas in relation to the so-called ‘plebiscitary democracy’. Firstly, it describes his ideas on parliamentary democracy and plebiscitary democracy, documenting their particularities and differences. Secondly, it specifically addresses the plebiscitary democracy as a kind of charismatic domination. The study analyses both Weber scientific analysis on plebiscitary democracy as the political proposal for a specific time in the history of Germany, early into the post-war period. This paper highlights the theoretical limits of the proposed plebiscitary democracy from Weber’s own theory.
