STANISŁAW LEM: FICÇÃO NA ENCRUZILHADA DA CIÊNCIA COM A METAFÍSICA

This paper discusses in the context of metaphysics, the “I porous” and “I armed”, leaving an X-ray of religious and atheistic intuitions in the twentieth century.The theoretical formulation is based on the findings of the Canadian philosopher Charles Taylor, in his book A Secular Age, which is an antinomy between two formulations of self: the “I porous” (or: Porous self) and “I armed” (or self protected). The first case refers to a self that was present in past ages and that allowed him/herself to be penetrated by beliefs, superstitions, angels and demons. The second is the contemporary form of self reinforced and protected with the achievements of reason in the field of science and advances of technology. Unlike I porous the I armed has one autonomy guarantee before transcendental and metaphysical elements. The corpus for the application of the exposed theory is the Polish writer, philosopher and futurologist Stanisław Lem (1921, Lvov - 2006, Krakow), considered one of the classic science fiction of the twentieth century. In his fiction, especially in Fantastic and futurology the interface between science and metaphysics enables demonstrating the proposal of Charles Taylor. In fact, the purpose of this essay is precisely to present this interface in order to use fiction as a privileged action to call into question the judgments about the absence of “I porous”, or its anachronistic character in the present “disenchanted” world
