Indonesia is a country of pluralism that consists of various tribes, races and religions, the diversity of these things can lead to conflicts with various causes. When social conflicts occur within the community, this is inseparable from the awareness of the community itself and the role and function of the police, for example such as war between tribes that usually occur in Mmika Regency, Province of Papua inhabited by 7 indigenous tribes constantly. Those tribes are Amungme, Moni, Kamoro, Dani, Damal, Meea and Nduga. This is the reason why the author conduct a legal study entitled “the POLICE EFFORT TO OVERCOME SOCIAL CONFLICT IN THE CITY OF TIMIKA“with the aim to find out whether the police effort to overcome social conflict in the city of Timika Papua is in accordance with the law and the obstacles of the police in overcoming social conflict in the city of Timika.
