In this dissertation, I attempt to understand the history of Seoul as it has experienced movement and stasis. The concept of mobility organizes this dissertation. By relying upon the recent developments in theories of culture, space, communication technologies, my dissertation explores how certain practices, technologies and knowledge that channel, determine, and facilitate mobilities are enmeshed in the historical making of the modern city.
