132 p.Thesis (Ph.D.)--University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, 2005.This study demonstrates that individuals of different ages and abilities make gait modifications in response to everyday environmental conditions. While differences in gait between individuals with PD and their healthy peers are well-documented, this study identifies an important difference that indicates a potential safety threat to individuals with PD. If they are less capable of responding to a change in the environment, such as a patch of ice or a curb, they are at greater risk for falling.U of I OnlyRestricted to the U of I community idenfinitely during batch ingest of legacy ETD
