142 p.Thesis (Ph.D.)--University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, 2007.The bottom-up approach not only extends the existing emissions modeling by including the influences of city, town, suburb, and rural boundary as well as effects of spatial distribution of household income on fuel consumptions but also provides a quick and easy way to connect urbanization with residential fuel consumptions and residential emissions. Therefore, decision makers can obtain prompt feedback from the model and quickly adjust their policy scenarios accordingly. The spatial feature of this approach also provides a direct means to visually observe dynamic changes of driving variables across space.
