145 p.Thesis (Ph.D.)--University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, 1998.An overall goal of this research was to investigate the influence of tomatoes, BC and lycopene on prostate carcinogenesis under biologically relevant conditions. To this end, a novel approach for the delivery of carotenoids to cells in culture and a murine model were developed. There was no evidence from the athymic model that whole tomato or tomato extracts reduced the progression of advanced prostate cancer.U of I OnlyRestricted to the U of I community idenfinitely during batch ingest of legacy ETD
