240 p.Thesis (Ph.D.)--University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, 2000.Conventional elastomeric bearings are primarily used in the Midwest for accommodating temperature movements, yet can play a significant role in reducing column displacement demands in earthquakes. Nonlinear models for Illinois Type I, II and III elastomeric bearings are developed. The effectiveness of the bearings for reducing column displacement demands is addressed by analytical studies. These studies consider the effects of cold temperatures on bearing stiffness.U of I OnlyRestricted to the U of I community idenfinitely during batch ingest of legacy ETD
