The study group is female students primarily from Chicago's major immigrant communities: Irish, Jewish, Italian, and Polish. Previous histories on immigrant education used ethnic differences to explain disparities in educational attainment among Irish, Italian, Polish, and Jewish immigrant groups. However, these studies used data, which primarily focused on the male members of these ethnic groups.
