29 pages, 6 figures, 3 tables[EN] This paper accepts four premises that may be wrong, but that we belive can provide a philosophy for a healthy approach to the problem of the study of phytoplankton, as it emerges in relation with the posibilities of present day technology. 1) Planktologists cannot be satisfied with a statement saying that «a number of samples have an exceedingly small probability of coming from an uniform universe». We accept, as a matter of course, that plankton is not distributed at random, 2) It is hopeless to try to maximize incoming information, in the sense that we process collected information and from this we decide the best course to follow in further sampling. In this case we look ahead for something, and if we confirm our views we remain gratified. But the completely unexpected is what adds more informationos, and no program exist for this, short of pure serendipity.
