Las proteínas COX17 y COX19 estarían involucradas en la inserción del cobre en COX. En Arabidopsis thaliana (Arabidopsis) encontramos dos genes que codifican proteínas COX17, denominados AtCOX17 -1 y AtCOX17-2, y dos genes AtCOX19 que codifican proteínas idénticas.
