Background: Vascularised composite allografts (VCAs), such as face, hand and abdominal wall transplants, have resulted in excellent functional and quality-of-life outcomes. The development of VCA tolerance protocols would obviate the need for immunosuppression and allow widespread use of this reconstructive modality.
