New highly efficient, reliable, and low complexity Random Access Schemes are under research especially under the Machine to machine (M2M) communications paradigm. One of the main challenges is the inter-user interference, which constitutes the limiting factor to network performance, especially when dense wireless systems sustaining high traffic loads are deployed. Successive Interference cancellation (SIC) policies have proved an invaluable tool in order to counteract this problem. Nonetheless, the success of such IC schemes depends heavily on the received power distribution.
