From the reader's side, an hypertext helps him escape the sequential reading of documents, taking advantage of links to browse from one information to another. Thus links are often considered simply as references between documents. In this article, we propose a deeper analysis of the mechanisms which take place in hypertexts. A link is a semantic relationship between information chunks. As a consequence, two entities are to be considered. On the one hand, information is presented to the reader as node contents. On the other hand, knowledge (with the A.I. meaning) is used by the machine to make browsing possible.
