Les habitants de la banlieue bordelaise en 1906

Although the size of the suburbs of this city in the Gironde in terms of demography and area at the beginning of the twentieth century, was steel limited in comparison to metropolitan Paris, its characteristics were similar to those of the general model of the suburbs. The population born locally was in the minority compared to natives of Bordeaux and provincial immigrants, pratically all of urban passed by the city center. They were from a modest background -though not lumpen-proletariat -and were attracted by the possibility of living in a house with ab adjoining garden : the one-storey attatched houses (échoppes) which are beginning to modify the landscape of the outskirts of Bordeaux.Bien que l'importance démographique et spatiale de la banlieue de la métropole girondine soit encore au début du XXème siècle limitée par rapport à celle de l'agglomération parisienne, ses caractéristiques se rapprochent du modèle général de la banlieue. La population née sur place y est très minoritaire par rapport aux natifs de Bordeaux et aux immigrés provinciaux, dont presque tous sont passés par la ville-centre. Il s'agit de gens modestes -mais pas d'un lumpen-prolétariat - attirés là par la possibilité d'y vivre dans des maisons à jardins jointifs : les «échoppes» qui commencent à modifier le paysage de la périphérie bordelaise.Poussou Jean-Pierre.
