Prevalence of Partial Edentulism by Kennedy Classification and Rehabilitation Methods Among Adults in The LSMU Clinic of Dental and Maxillofacial Orthopedics

Relevance of the problem and aim of the work. The World Health Organization identifies partial edentulism as a physical disability. Considering literature data, the prevalence of partial edentulism in different countries varies. The aim of the work – to investigate the prevalence of partial edentulism and rehabilitation methods among adult patients of The Lithuanian University of Health Sciences Clinic of Dental and Maxil-lofacial Orthopedics. Material and the methods. The research work was carried out in 2017 September -2018 January in the LSMU Clinic of Dental and maxillofacial orthopaedics. The patient's oral health status was ana-lyzed according to medical records from personal health stories (form 025/a). Data selected accor-ding to inclusion and exclusion criteria. Statistical data analysis has been carried out with SPSS 23.0 and Microsoft Office Excel 2013 software. Results. The biggest number of patients were in 60-74 age group (p<0,001). The most prevalent type of partial edentulism was Kennedy Class I in both jaws: the maxilla (42,7%) and the mandible (63,3%). Kennedy Class IV was the least prevalent (1% in the maxilla, 0,6% in the mandible) (p<0,001). Kennedy Class I and II were mostly restored with acrylic removable partial denture in both jaws (p <0.001). Statistically more often Kennedy Class III was restored by fixed partial dentures (p <0.001).
