Evaluation of quality of life in patients with chronic periodontitis

Relevance of the problem and aim of the work: Chronic periodontitis causes destruction of teeth rounding tissues. This leads teeth sensitivity, mobility and loss. Patients face various functional, physical, psychological limitations on a daily living. Although scientific literature has a long history of QoL values, there is still a lack of data on the impact of chronic periodontitis and its relationship with QoL. The aim of this study is to determine the relationship between the severity of chronic periodontitis, teeth mobility, sensitivity, teeth loss and QoL. Material and the methods: The study consists of two parts. Patients severity of chronic periodontitis, their teeth sensitivity to cold stimulus, tooth migration and loss was evaluated. Then patients were interviewed using the international OHIP-49 QoL questionnaire. The statistical analysis of the tests is performed by the SPSS 17.0 program. The significance level of the 0.05 statistical hypothesis was chosen. Results: The study involved 83 people (mean age 52±1,6 years). The average QoL assessment score in the form of mild to moderate periodontitis (p 0.05). Conclusions: Significantly worse QoL in patients with chronic periodontitis is due to disease severity, tooth mobility and missing teeth
