Gold nanoparticles (AuNP) show unique size-dependent physical and chemical properties. Their size, shape and surface functionalization can be easily modified by adjusting the synthetic procedure or by using specific stabilizing molecules. One parameter influencing the particles’ stability is therefore, the ligand molecule. In the present work, tailor-made ligand molecules were used to enable a cross-linkage of the ligand sphere on the AuNP surface to increase the stability. In order to realize a surface polymerization, diacetylene units within the molecular structure were used.
