Emergency to resistance strains of <i>Campylobacter jejuni</i> isolates from raw retail poultry parts

Se estudió la resistencia de Campylobacter jejuni a 2 de los antimicrobianos más utilizados para la terapia humana y animal (eritromicina y norfloxacina) a partir de cepas aisladas de carcasas y menudencias de pollo. En 42 (35%) de las 120 muestras procesadas se aisló la especie Campylobacter jejuni biotipo II de Lior. Se seleccionaron 28 cepas por su resistencia al ácido nalidíxico (disco de 30 µg) para probar la susceptibilidad a la norfloxacina y eritromicina. El 71,4% (20) de las cepas resistentes al ácido nalidíxico lo fue además para la eritromicina con una CIM50 de 64 µg/ml y CIM90 128 µg/ml. Todas las cepas mostraron resistencia a la norfloxacina (discos de 10 µg) y el valor de la CIM50 y CIM90 fue 64 µg/ml. Se concluye que la alta resistencia registrada para ambas drogas en carne de pollo aumenta el riesgo de transferir Campylobacter con estas características al humano, dificulta la identificación del agente etiológico y el éxito en la terapia antibacteriana.The antimicrobial resistance of Campylobacter jejuni strains obtained from carcasses and raw retail poultry parts were study in order to know their sensitivity from erythromycin and norfloxacin. Forty-two strains of Campylobacter biotype II of Lior were identified from 120 isolates (35%). Twenty-eight of these were screened for nalidixic acid resistance (30 mg disc). 71,4% of these selected strains were also erythromycin resistant by using disc diffusion method (13 mm) and MIC50 64 µg/ml, MIC90 128 µg/ml. All of them showed norfloxacin resistance by using both dilution agar MIC50 64 µg/ml, MIC90 64 µg/ml and diffusion agar method (10 µg disc). It was concluded that the high resistance of Campylobacter to erythromycin and norfloxacin registered from poultry products may be an important source of infection for human being to these emergent bacteria as well as their implications for the identifications of campylobacter, therapeutic and public health.Facultad de Ciencias Veterinaria
