Fueron entrevistadas 6109 embarazadas sobre el uso de remedios para provocar la menstruación. Del total de las embarazadas, 14,4% respondieron que habían tomado algún medicamento, de las cuales el 35,696 habían recurrido a infusiones ("tés") de diversas especies. Las plantas más nombradas fueron sen, ruda, canela, boldo y quinino. El uso de infusiones de plantas para tratar de provocar la menstruación se mostró asociado al embarazo no planeado, menor grado de escolaridad, número elevado de hijos, ausencia de marido o compañero y al uso de anticonceptivo oral.
