UID/HIS/04666/2013In the present essay I explore the concept of literary culture and its place in the formation of local political cultures. It is defended the theoretical and methodological interest, for intellectual history, of adopting a broad idea of the concept of literary culture. Applying such proposal to the Goan case during the colonial period, it is called attention to the multilingualism of this society and, in such framework, to the importance of paying attention to the social and political history as well as to the intellectual history of each literary language in the constitution of diverse local literary cultures.
