The land issue in Algeria often revolves around the dilapidation of land suitable for cultivation and the misappropriation of public property by networks of local figures. In spite of the inaccuracy of the data, analysis demonstrates that the acceleration in land consumption in the early 1990's is the result of a national political trend. It did not lead to a significant increase in the amount of building land, just more bottlenecks.
