The present paper deals with a model of verbal aspect based on the lexical meaning of the verb, presented in Antinucci and Gebert (1975-76). The definition of the perfective is formulated in terms of illocutionary force bearing on the semantic component change with, as its results, the relative end state. The imperfective aspect, which realizes the meaning of states, is also examined. These definitions of the two aspects account for the use of the imperfective to express accomplished facts. Stative value is common to the latter case and to the apparently different meanings exhibited by the imperfective, such as progressive / durative and iterative.
