The present paper deals with verbal aspect as a semantic phenomenon and the linguistic (gramatical and regular lexical) means used to express aspectual information in Slavonic, Romance and Balkan utterances. The author attempts to interpret the phenomenon of aspect by applying the theory of events and states. Events (with a punctual graphic interpretation on a temporal axis) correspond to changes of states (having a segmental graphic representation on the same axis).
