Sue Gollifer, the artistic curator of the project, has invited curators from nine countries to select printed works from some of the most innovative contemporary printmakers in the field. Hot Plate focuses on installation and unframed work, seeking to position prints as objects and site-specific pieces. A number of the artists have moved away from the wall all together, using new materials, substrates and applications such as cloth, synthetic paper and metal. By approaching contemporary printmaking in the widest possible way, Hot Plate sparks a lively conversation about process, technique and technology within a continuously evolving area of the visual arts.
