This thesis presents data on the largest randomized controlled trial of severe acute kidney injury to date. Through 14 peer reviewed publications arising from this trial, it provides novel and integrated information about key aspects of the management of severe acute kidney injury in critically ill patients. With data ranging from the impact of dialysis dose intensity and timing to acid-base control, from protein to calorie intake, from blood transfusion to optimal vascular access, and from specific drugs to management of phosphate, this is the most comprehensive research-generated set of data and insights for this condition to date
