In a controversial article two philosophers argue about so-called “after-birth abortion”. By showing that both fetuses and newborns do not have the same moral status as actual persons, and the fact that both are potential persons is morally irrelevant, they argue that “after-birth abortion” should be permissible in all the cases where abortion is, including cases where the newborn is not disabled. In this article the author criticizes the argument presented by the philosophers indicating several weaknesses: a) failure to specify a date from which to consider a fetus as an actual person b) the absolutely illiberal character of a self-styled liberal theory
