The article discusses some problems of the Piano Concerto genre development in the Republic of Moldova. The historical perspective is related to the periodization of this kind of musical works and the identification of the most representative creations for each period in the genre evolution. The theoretical aspect is defined by the study of the most prominent stylistic trends characteristic of national concertos for piano and orchestra written in the second half of the 20th–beginning of the 21 st centuries. Emphasis is laid on the “Third Direction” in the studied genre, in this connection, attention is drawn to the composition by L. Stirbu.
