Contemporary Quranic studies have become popular amongst Muslim scholars in the world by using new methods. Among them is Nasr Hamid Abu Zayd, the professor of Arabic literature from Egypt. He is famous for his concept of the Qur’an Muntaj Thaqafi (cultural products) and the Qur’an Muntij Thaqafi (cultural producers). His concept begins with historicism phenomenologys in understanding the process of revelation of the Qur’an. The impact of this is that, the holy text and meaning of the Qur’an as verbum dei (Kalâmullah) is changed to mere cultural products, it means the text of the Qur’an formed by it’s interaction with the socio-culture, that it was revealed in for 20 years.
