Mental Illness as biological-evolutive Dysfunction: neural Mechanisms, pertinent Activities and selected Effects In this paper I discuss the naturalistic and objectivist concept of mental illness as biological dysfunction. I argue for the so-called selected effect accounts, as alternative to bio-statistical accounts. In order to reply to accuses of normativism, particularly ethical one, I defend a minimalist account according to which the term "function" should be understood as, if not replaced by, the mechanistic-evolutionary expression “evolutionarily pertinent activity”
