A Devonian metallogenic province is extended northwards from central Queensland to the Burdekin Basin in the Charters Towers Gold and Mineral Field. Devonian sediments of the Burdekin Basin are intruded by mineralised quartz felspar porphyry which occurs as pebbles in the Upper Devonian conglomerate. A mineralised volcanic complex lies on the crest of an anticline in Devonian sediments. Red siltstone is slurried and reduced to pyritic hornfels over folded limestone. A thick wedge of volcanogenic conglomerate overlain by marine shale lies on the mineralised rim of an ocean which suffered cataclysmic changes during Late Devonian times. -Autho
