International audienceIn Switzerland, illustrated Sunday newspapers became a target of propaganda during the Great War. In 1914, the Swiss German press relied on Germany for this sort of entertaining literature. With the outbreak of the war, this outwardly innocent media influence took a more aggressively political turn. In the autumn of 1915, Swiss intellectuals concerned with the moral independence of the country launched the Feuilles Suisse du Dimanche (Swiss Sunday Newspapers), an initiative supported by the government.
