International audienceFrom the very earliest standing stones of Sardinia, in the second half of the fifth millennium BC, to their final phase oferection during the third millennium, the analysis of this megalithic phenomenon depends almost entirely on decoratedmonoliths and statue-menhirs. Recent results obtained from the study of the phenomenon as a whole throughout Corsica andSardinia allow us to approach the problem of the statue-menhirs and the decorated monoliths from new perspectives. Ratherthan focusing on ritual and religious approaches, we propose a socio-territorial interpretation based on their potential roleswithin territories and within a general cultural context.
