The aim of the thesis is to grasp the iron production in Lorraine until 1630', that is to say, until the rupture of the Thirty Years' War. Above all, the author confirms that after the diffusion of the indirect process in the fifteenth century, the three humans factors - the lord, the ironmaster, the merchant - constitute the social and economic foundation on the iron industry. Particularly, the development in the second half of the sixteeth century consolidates this base. The lord supplies the raw materials (wood, ore, stream) and leases the forges to the ironmaster who manages them for the various terms. The latter is not a simple technical expert.
