The electronic structure of Nickel and the many-body correlation in different 3d-ferromagnets are investigated by the newly developed technique of spin-, angle-, and energy-resolved photoemission. This novel spectroscopy allowed for the first time a detailed comparison of spin-resolved photoemission spectra of Ni with quantitative photoemission calculations in a single-step model including correlation effects. These investigations also identified a controversial photoemission structure as a spin-split bulk state. This structure was interpreted heretofore as a majority-spin surface state in spin-integrated photoemission.
