This book makes me wonder why Australian historians have so readily agreed to a history that starts at 1788. Perhaps the First Fleet's entertaining publishing enterprises have been too seductive. Whereas historians may doubt that it is possible to write history without archival word middens, archaeologists doubt that one can write without material discoveries.
